Shoe fitting at Cardiff Bike Fit

Do your shoes work for you?

We’re used to shoes made for a dynamic foot, like trainers. However, cycling is a fixed-foot activity. This may lead us to buy a poorly fitting shoe that feels good on the shop floor, but does us no favours once clipped into a pedal.

Common symptoms of a poor foot setup include a hot, or burning foot, aches, pains, discomfort, clawing through the toes, rubbing, and knee pain. Professional fitting for cycling shoes creates healthy foundation for your whole body and helps to prevent injuries.

FAQs

Is shoe fitting included in a bike fit?

All of our Complete and Advanced bike fitting sessions can include assessment of the shoe, foot, and pedal interface. A poorly fitting shoe will be picked up in the bike fitting process. A standalone appointments for shoe fitting can be made for £20 which we refund against the purchase of any shoes bought with us at RRP.

What size shoes do I need?

The best way to find out, is to get measured. Our pro bike fitters are on hand at Cardiff Bike Fit to measure your feet and recommend the best type of shoe for you. We stock a wide range of shoes from Fizik and Crank Brothers and have lots of sizes available to try on.

Can you put my cleats in the right place?

Absolutely. Whether you’re getting new shoes or need adjustments on your existing footwear, our expert bike fitters will perfect the interface between shoe and pedal.

Will I have to buy new shoes?

Not necessarily. Not all foot issues are caused by having the ‘wrong’ shoes. There are all sorts of niggles with the foot/shoe/pedal interface that creep up on us. Sometimes we may recommend some insoles, wedges, or some simple changes to your cleat positioning.

Are cycling shoes true to size?

All brands size slightly differently. We recommend using your street shoe size to get you close, but an accurate measurement will often be needed to perfect the fit. Remember that cycling shoes are not supposed to feel like a comfortable street shoe; they should be supportive and stable on the foot.

Why is shoe fitting important?

A healthy foot setup from the start will help to prevent future issues occurring. Given the nature of the ‘fixed foot’ in cycling, finding the ‘right’ shoes can be complicated - especially if you have other preexisting injuries. If you have specific concerns about your foot or shoe setup contact us to chat through your options.
